When earthquakes and tsunami devastated different parts of Japan in early 2011, I designed a set of bold syllabic characters in modern kana script depicting the word “Endure” in response to the humbling spirit and solidarity that the people of Japan displayed during the crisis. The symbols were utilized on the popular design news and inspiration aggregator blog FormFiftyFive as its traditional “banner of the week” from 3/21/2011 to 3/27/2011. Usually, the banner links to the portfolio of the designer or illustrator who made it, but in this case all clicks on my banner were directed to the Red Cross donation page for the tsunami disaster.
